Try new Android apps before they’re officially released

To get user feedback, some developers make new apps or features available before they're officially released to the general public. You can try these apps or features by joining early access or beta programs.
Important: Keep in mind that these apps may be less stable than the later versions officially released to the public. This means the app might crash, or some features might not work properly when you use them.

Early access and beta testing apps on Google Play

Try unreleased apps through early access

Early access apps are apps which have not been released yet. To find and join an early access app:
  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. At the end of the list where you see “Top charts” and “Games,” tap Early access.
  3. Find an app you want to get early access to.
  4. Tap Install.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Note: If you install an unreleased app, you may be automatically enrolled in the beta program when that app launches.

Get beta versions of apps

Beta apps are new, experimental versions of apps that are currently available on the Play Store. The beta version may have features that are not available in the public version yet.
To get the beta version of an app you have to have the public version installed. To check if an app has a beta version available:
  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Find the app you want to check and tap it to go to the app detail page.
  3. Look to see if the app detail page mentions a beta version. Make sure you scroll down as this information could be at the bottom of the page.
  4. If it’s available, tap Join and then Join.

Space is limited in early access and beta programs

Some apps set a limit on the number of users in early access and beta programs. If there’s no more space you’ll see a message saying it’s full. More space may open later if current testers leave or if the developer allows more users to join.

See your early access and beta apps

To see a list of apps you have the unreleased version of:
  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then My apps and games and then Beta.
  3. You’ll see a list of the apps you have early access or beta versions of installed.

Leave a beta program

If you want use the production version of an app you have to leave the beta program, uninstall the app, and reinstall the production version.
When you leave and uninstall a beta app, you may lose your progress and any customizations you have made to the app.
To leave a beta program:
  1. Open the Google Play Store
  2. Trucaller
  3. Find the app you want to leave.
  4. Tap the app to open the detail page for the app.
  5. Scroll down to find the section on beta testing.
  6. Tap Leave and then Leave.
  7. Uninstall the app.
  8. Reinstall the app. If you don’t uninstall and reinstall the app, it may update when the public version of the app is updated.
Note: if you leave an early access or beta program, your space will open up and someone else may take it. You are not guaranteed to be able to get your space back later.

Provide feedback to the developer

Developers want your feedback on unreleased and beta apps. To provide feedback:
  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Find the app you want to provide feedback for.
  3. Tap the app to open the detail page for the app.
  4. Scroll down to the “Private feedback to developer” section of the page and tap Write feedback.
  5. Leave your feedback for the developer.
  6. Tap Post. Only the developer will see the feedback, not other users.
Note: If you use an early access or beta app, you won’t be able to leave public reviews on the Play Store for that app.
